It’s not just a smaller dose
Pet formulas are built differently from the ground up, not just diluted human product:
- Broad-spectrum, not full-spectrum. Pet products are formulated with the THC removed. A trace amount that’s negligible for an adult human is a much bigger relative dose for a 15-pound dog.
- Different flavoring entirely. Human flavor profiles (mint, citrus) mean nothing to a dog and can actively put them off. Pet chews use flavors dogs are drawn to — peanut butter, bacon — for a reason.
- Dosed by weight, not by “a dropper full.” A tincture made for a 150lb adult and a tincture made for a 15lb dog are not the same product scaled down casually — they’re formulated around a completely different weight range from the start.
Dogs and cats aren’t interchangeable either
Cats process things differently than dogs do, which is part of why cat-specific tinctures exist as their own category rather than “the dog one, just less.” If you have both, don’t assume one product covers both animals.
